Takeshi Kitano — ZatoichiCuando en 1997 Takeshi Kitano ganó el León de Oro en Venecia con Hana-Bi (Flores de fuego) ya tenía tras de sí una profusa filmografía, así como una importante reputación en su país, Japón, como actor televisivo especializado en stand-up comedy (beat Takeshi).

Kitano ha llevado el lenguaje cinematográfico hasta extremos de absoluta libertad creativa para dar su particular visión del mundo, tomando la violencia como eje central de sus preocupaciones. Para ello, con un estilo inconfundible, no ha dudado en pasar en una misma escena de situaciones de extrema quietud a explosiones frenéticas sin transición alguna, ralentizando el tiempo en primeros planos fijos e hieráticos, y utilizando la elipsis y el fuera de campo para potenciar la irrupción de esa violencia contenida, que “como en la realidad es esencialmente dolorosa” (Kitano dixit).

Esa continua dicotomía (acción-inacción) que marca el devenir de su relato se estructura a partir de claras rupturas con el cine clásico: sus famosos saltos de eje y puestas en escena asimétricas en el campo-contracampo o, por el contrario, la ubicación de la cámara sobre el mismo eje cuando de transmutar lo objetivo en subjetivo se trata. Tal vez, como en Kiarostami, uno de los dilemas básicos que presenta el cine de Kitano radica ahí, en esa confianza plena que, en última instancia, el director deposita en el sujeto, en la lucidez e imaginación del espectador para poder armar e interpretar este puzzle discursivo.
