Having lasted for 10 years, 5 tours, more than 350 shows, 4 full length albums, over 25 appearances on compilations and videos, and watched as countless bands have changed up their sound to try and be "the next big thing", 800 Octane has quietly stuck to their guns and has consistently played punk rock the way they like it . fast, loud and catchy. Usually tagged as 'skate punk' or 'horror punk' you can definitely see shades of old school bands such as The Misfits, The Ramones and The Damned in their sound. The vocals and melodies have a distinct old school edge, but the energetic music is much more dynamic with fast energetic songs, plenty of tempo changes, breakdowns, quiet sing-alongs, big soaring choruses and dozens of memorable hooks. Song topics are all over the place from introspective songs about growing older to campy songs showcasing their collective fascination with horror movies. Keeping true to the duality of their sound, l ive shows bring out a whole different side of the band. Whether 5 people or 500 people are in attendance the polished recordings give way to a raw and powerful sound as the songs are sped up, the catchy vocals are turned into shouted anthems, and the band becomes a blur of motion and activity. Through the response from their shows the band has played with dozens of high profile national acts including Guttermouth, Face To Face, All, Saves The Day, Sum 41, Tiger Army, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, New Found Glory, Gwar, No Use For A Name, H2O, Zebrahead and slots on the 2002 and 2003 Warped Tour.
The 4 th full length album titled 'Rise Again' is scheduled for a June 2004 release on New School Records. The album was recorded and produced by Conrad Uno who has also put out albums by Mudhoney, The Supersuckers, Nashville Pussy, Zeke, Presidents Of The USA, and the Groovie Ghoulies. Compared to their past releases ('The Return' in 2000, 'The Kelvis' in 1998, 'Swank' in 1996) this album showcases a slightly darker sound combined with an improved sense of melody. This album manages to contain both the catchiest songs as well as the heaviest songs the band has ever written and somehow manages to blend them together. The first pressing of 'Rise Again' will also come bundled with a DVD featuring a live set recorded on Halloween of 2003. This is guaranteed to demonstrate the difference between the catchy hooks of their recording and the band's raw energy live.
