Queen
Queen es una banda de rock británica formada en 1970 en Londres por el guitarrista Brian May, el cantante Freddie Mercury y el baterista Roger Taylor, con el bajista John Deacon quien se les unió al año siguiente. Tras la ruptura del grupo Smile en 1970, del cual provenían Taylor y May, decide unirse luego Mercury, (originariamente Farrokh "Freddie" Bulsara, y que cambió su apellido al unirse al grupo) poseedor de una voz con un registro poco común y un timbre excepcional para muchos.
Al año siguiente, después de buscar por un tiempo un bajista para la banda, aparece Deacon, quien sería el bajista definitivo de la banda, conformando así la formación definitiva del grupo Queen (nombre sugerido por Freddie Mercury) en la ciudad de Londres, Inglaterra en 1971. Es reconocida como la banda británica más exitosa del mundo en los últimos 30 años, además de ser considerada, a través de una encuesta radiofónica de la BBC londinense, como la mejor banda británica de la historia, superando a The Beatles por apenas 400 votos.
La banda es conocida por su gran diversidad musical, tanto en lo vocal como en lo instrumental, así como por sus multitudinarios conciertos de gran calidad.
Según OhmyNews, la cifra de ventas de Queen alrededor del mundo hoy en día supera los 300 millones de discos vendidos, de los cuales 32,5 millones corresponden a Estados Unidos, convirtiendo así a Queen en una de las bandas más exitosas del mundo.
Su disco Greatest Hits, de 1981, es el álbum más vendido en la historia del Reino Unido, con la particularidad de que suele ingresar cada tanto en el Top 40 Británico a pesar de tener nula publicidad.
La muerte de Freddie Mercury, en 1991, provoca el fin de la banda, que no obstante publicaría su último álbum de estudio, Made In Heaven en 1995.
En 1997, la banda se reuniría por última vez con motivo del recopilatorio Queen Rocks, para interpretar la canción "No One But You". Ese mismo año, el bajista John Deacon anunció su retirada de la música, mientras que Roger Taylor y Brian May se unieron a Paul Rodgers formando el grupo Queen + Paul Rodgers, con el que grabarán un disco, que fue lanzado en 2008, titulado The Cosmos Rocks.
