Formado en 1970 bajo el nombre inicial de "Weather Forescat", fue el teclista, Joe Zawinul el principal impulsor de "Weather Report", una formación emblemática de la fusión del jazz con los sonidos eléctricos y rockeros. Sus miembros fundadores eran todos ellos excelentes compositores y grandes instrumentistas, y surgieron tras la estela del maestro Miles Davis, cuando el genial trompetista de Alton, inició su andadura eléctrica con discos como: "In a Silent Way" y "Bitches Brew".
La música de Weather Report, atrajo de inmediato la atención de critica y publico y la presencia en ella desde sus comienzos de Joe Zawinul y Wayne Shorter, este último miembro durante años del grupo de Miles Davis, garantizaban la vinculación del mensaje musical con el jazz. Criticada desde algunos sectores de grupo monótono y de sonora esterilidad, el devenir de la formación y la música que hacían -calificada desde el principio como jazz-rock - evidenciaba que estábamos en presencia de una explosión de ideas que se reforzó sobremanera cuando se incorporó al grupo en 1975, el bajista eléctrico, Jaco Pastorius. Weather Report, producía un sonido inconfundible y único que se tradujo en álbumes considerados clásicos absolutos de la fusión del jazz y el rock, como "Black Market" (Columbia, 1976) o el extraordinario "Heawy Weather" para el mismo sello en 1977.
En ésa época, el grupo obtuvo durante varios años consecutivos los mayores galardones otorgados por la prestigiosa revista Down Beat y las giras, conciertos y actuaciones se sucedieron por todo el mundo. Con la marcha en 1982 de Jaco Pastorius, Weather Report se vio obligado a cambiar de protagonista en la percusión hasta dar con el batería, Omar Hakim, el bajista, Víctor Bailey y el percusionista, Mino Cinelu, por entonces tres jóvenes músicos que hicieron lo que pudieron por arropar la creatividad, todavía intacta de Joe Zawinul y Wayne Shorter. Con esa nueva composición, "Weather Report" grabó todavía tres grandes discos: "Procession" (Sonny, 1983); y "Domino Theory" para el mismo sello y en el mismo año y finalmente el disco con el que se despidieron de su publico: "This Is This!", (Columbia, 1985), una especie de recopilación de material no editado hasta entonces.
Con la disolución en 1985 del grupo, Joe Zawinul y Wayne Shorter,iniciaron su carrera en solitario, uno, el teclista fundando el grupo: "Zawinul Syndicate", y otro, el saxofonista, actuando como líder de su propio grupo con el que todavía hoy afortunadamente, continua en activo.

Es cierto algunos links ya estan muertos... me paso con varios de los discos que estaban en MediaFire y en Gigasize. Para el primer disco (Weather Report de 1971) todavía funcionan los links de RapidShare así que pueden bajarlo desde ahí. Si tienen problemas con algún otro enlace avisenme que cuando pueda vuelvo a subir el disco que falte.
