Sinopsis: Ocho desconocidos, con ocho puntos de vista diferentes, intentan descubrir la verdad tras un intento de asesinato al presidente de los Estados Unidos. Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) y Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox) son dos agentes del Servicio Secreto encargados de proteger al presidente Ashton (William Hurt) en una cumbre sin precedentes sobre la guerra internacional contra el terrorismo. Cuando el presidente Ashton recibe un disparo poco después de llegar a España, surge el caos y las vidas de distintas personas coinciden en la caza del asesino. Entre la multitud se encuentra Howard Lewis (Forest Whitaker), un turista americano que cree que ha filmado al francotirador con su cámara de vídeo, mientras grababa la escena para sus hijos. También allí, relatando el acontecimiento histórico para millones de espectadores de todo el planeta, está la productora de noticias para la televisión americana Rex Brooks (Sigourney Weaver). A medida que ellos y otros van dando a conocer sus historias, las piezas del puzzle empiezan a encajar, y se hará evidente que hay motivaciones mucho más oscuras de lo que parece a simple vista.
