Live 8 fue un evento único en la historia de la música. El 2 de julio último los grupos y solistas de rock más importantes del mundo se unieron para brindar una serie de conciertos en nueve ciudades diferentes. El objetivo fue unir la mayor cantidad de voces de todas las latitudes para reclamar a los líderes mundiales reunidos en la última cumbre del G8 (el grupo de los ocho países más ricos del planeta), para que condonen la deuda de las naciones de Africa y se duplique la ayuda económica al continente más castigado por el hambre y la miseria.

Fueron nueve recitales gratuitos y simultáneos en Londres, París, Berlín, Roma, Tokio, Moscú, Toronto, Johannesburg y Filadelpfia, que concentraron a las mayores estrellas del rock y del pop. Más de dos millones de personas presenciaron los shows en vivo, y casi 5 mil millones los vieron por televisión.

Pink Floyd, -con el regreso de Roger Waters especialmente para esta ocasión después de 24 años -, Paul McCartney, U2, Madonna, Sting, The Who, Robbie Williams, Stevie Wonder y Colplay encabezaron un ejército de cientos de grupos y solistas que participaron en forma desinteresada en esta causa global.

Semejante acontecimiento merecía quedar registrado para la posteridad. Fue así que EMI editó un box de 4 DVD’s con los momentos más significativos del Live 8.

Cada artista que tocó en el Hyde Park de Londres y en el Museo de Arte de Filadelfia, los escenarios principales del festival, aparece en el DVD y muchos de ellos con sus sets completos.

“Live 8” abre con U2 y Paul McCartney haciendo junto a la multitud “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”, contiene la histórica reunión de Pink Floyd, el increíble show de Robbie Williams y Madonna en un set enérgico.

Artistas más jóvenes como Snow Patrol, The Killers y Joss Stone mezclados con verdaderas leyendas del rock and roll, tal el caso de The Who y Sting. Duetos en off entre Paul McCartney y George Michael, Stevie Wonder y Adam Levine (Maroon 5), Elton John y Pete Doherty; Coldplay y Richard Ashcroft.

El disco 3 cierra como el Concierto de Londres, con las estrellas de Live 8 en el Hyde Park tomando el escenario para entonar el clásico beatleano “Hey Jude”.

Incluye las vigorosas actuaciones de las superestrellas americanas Destiny’s Child, Bon Jovi, Black Eyed Peas y la leyenda soul Stevie Wonder.

También están las performances de los artistas que participaron de Live 8 en las otras ciudades. Hay temas de Green Day, Brian Wilson y Roxy Music en Berlín y Neil Young en Toronto. También de los Pet Shop Boys en Moscú, Duran Duran en Roma, Vusi Mahlasela en Johannesburg y Placebo y Muse en París.

El disco 4 contiene extras exclusivos y documentales de backstage nunca vistos filmados en el Hyde Park, los ensayos de la reunión de Pink Floyd, más actos de conciertos globales para Live que incluye McFly y Bjork en Tokio, films de The Who y Travis y una contribución de Ricky Gervais.

Tiene además los mejores momentos del concierto de Edinburgh’s Final Push del 6 de julio, integrado actuaciones de James Brown, Travis y The Proclaimers.

EMI y la organización Live 8 se pusieron de acuerdo en donar los royalties de las ventas del DVD, que irán a la Band Aid Trust, organización que combate el hambre y la pobreza en Africa.
