Las herejías jocosas de Maurizio Cattelan

Las provocaciones de Maurizio Cattelan se inscriben dentro de esa contraposición entre esencia y apariencia que predomina en diferentes estrategias contemporáneas de enmascara-mientos. Entre el cuerpo, el objeto y la acción, sus esculturas hiperrealistas y performances se traducen en símbolos de ese afán universal por ocultar las verdaderas intenciones humanas. En efecto, Cattelan no se anuncia como un artista conceptual, aunque muchos de sus gestos ostentan una notable densidad de ideas. Tampoco presume de su gravedad poética; sin embargo, tras la ligereza de ciertas fábulas se esconde la conversión de lo cómico en lo trágico, dejando escaso margen para definirlo como un humorista infiltrado en el mundo del arte.
