"Blue Note Plays the Beatles" contiene 11 temas interpretados por artistas del jazz basados en temas de Lennon y McCartney. El dilema que se les presentó a este impresionante elenco de genios del jazz era si los temas debían ser totalmente fieles a los originales o todo lo contrario. decidir a cubrir esas canciones conocidas, un artista que tiene dos posibles formas de proceder: o bien volver a crear la pista sin ningún problema a la original o el intento contrario. Dentro de la primera categoría englobamos los temas "I've Just Seen a Face" por Holly Cole, "And I Love Her" por Kevin Hays, y "Come Together" por Dianne Reeves y Cassandra Wilson junto a Bob Belden. Estos temas son sencillos, muy buenas reinterpretaciones pero que no añaden nada nuevo a los originales. La segunda categoría está representada por dos temas: Bobby McFerrin interpretando a capella "Drive My Car" y la versión funk que hace Grant Green de "A Day In the Life." Ambos artistas sí que rinden un verdadero homenaje a estos dos temas de The Beatles universalmente aclamados. Grant Green destaca especialmente porque transforma el tema "A Day in the Life" en una explosión de funky que elude la majestuosa cacofonía que es el sello distintivo de la canción. En resumen, "Blue Note Plays the Beatles", combina a la perfección estas rarezas con el resto de temas, lo que debería complacer plenamente a los seguidores tanto del jazz como de The Beatles.
